Renowned earth artist Day Schildkret worked on an all-natural mandala Friday at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis as part of the Midsummer Memory Mandalas event at the grounds. The art installation, 10 by 20 feet in size, is intended to symbolize the impermanence of life by transforming grief into beauty. It’s created from leaves, seeds, feathers, flowers and stones gathered from around the 250-acre cemetery at the site near Lakewood’s historic chapel.
